ThighMaster millionaire, Suzanne Somers died October 15, 2023, a day before her birthday October 16, 2023.  She died from breast cancer.

Her publicist R. Couri Hay shared in a statement, noting her husband Alan Hamel, son Bruce Somers Jr., 57, and her immediate family were by her side.

“She survived an aggressive form of breast cancer for over 23 years,” he shared, acknowledging that Oct. 16 would have been her 77th birthday. “They will celebrate her extraordinary life, and want to thank her millions of fans and followers who loved her dearly.”

In July, the Three’s Company star, who was diagnosed with cancer in 2000, gave fans an update on her ongoing health battle.  When she was first diagnosed she had a procedure done known as a lumpectomy and was treated with radiation.  She also used “mistletoe” as a treatment which when she announced it, that was somewhat controversial.  She also used Dr. Yoshimura’s protocol that utilizes autologous adipose-derived stem cells in combination with liposuction techniques.

“Since I have been taking time off from work, many of you have asked for more details about my health,” she wrote on Instagram at the time. “As you know, I had breast cancer two decades ago, and every now and then it pops up again, and I continue to bat it down. I have used the best alternative and conventional treatments to combat it. This is not new territory for me.”

Although some might jump to the idea that her treatments did not work, she died at the age of 76, and for 20 plus years was considered a breast cancer survivor.  None of us live forever.  We are all born and we die.  There is no utopia in this world.  None of us get out of this place alive.  The average lifespan in the US is 77.  In other developed nations it might be somewhat longer but there is a reason the retirement age was originally set at age 65 and should have been left at 65 regardless of what criminal politicians who want to work the slaves a little bit longer keep touting on behalf of the insidiously evil oligarchs.

Although younger people notice sudden quality of life issue at age 40 they tend to rebound if they survive that age.  Then at age 70 quality of life issues begin.  Then at age 80, even if you are going to ultimately live to 90 or even 100 you start to feel the end of  life issues as more medical problems begin piling on.  And with each medical episode, people develop the idea that they survived that episode and therefore they are going to survive the next episode. But at some point the arrogance will become humility as we return to where we came; to join our loved ones who have passed before us.

Suzanne Marie Mahoney was born in San Bruno, California on October 16, 1946, as the third of four children in a working-class Irish-American Catholic family. Her mother, Marion Elizabeth, was a medical secretary, and her father, Francis Mahoney, was a laborer and gardener. She was somewhat wild in her youth and she did not get along very well with her father where she placed most of the blame for her problems. She got knocked up at 19 by Bruce Somers who she married. She not only got a son out of the relationship but a kick ass name. The marriage was rocky as was the finances and she ended up getting arrested for fraud.

After divorcing in 1968 she got a gig with Alan Hamel. He was married but she got knocked up by him. This time she got an abortion even though he would eventually leave his wife and they would get married and live a long and happy life together. Although from an appearance on Johnny Carson’s The Tonight Show she got her gig on Three’s Company and became a fairly successful actress, most of her fortune came from a workout invention that she and her husband developed together called the ThighMaster which they marketed through Infomercials, showing as much of Suzanne Somers’ legs as the product.

Probably the best career decision she made was getting fired from Three’s Company by wanting more money. Then again Joyce DeWitt has not done too badly either.
